This sprawling country estate is set on 25 acres in Sutton Forest, the southern gateway to the Southern Highlands.

The owners’ vision for the home was grand, and involved the construction of a 2 storey link between the two main existing buildings on the property.

In addition to this, two separate wings were added to the east and west of the main existing dwelling. Each wing comprises a habitable room with large open-air balconies over the top.

The construction of the additional wings and the 2 storey link way was all carried out using reinforced masonry walls, brickwork and suspended concrete slabs.

All existing structures were fully renovated inside true to their original form.

The interior of the home was thoughtfully designed and styled by our clients, with various styles of beautiful wallpaper sourced from Europe, tiles imported from the USA, slate from India and appliances from Europe. Bespoke ocelot carpet was installed up the grand staircase and along the hallway. The design ensured each space had its own personality and gave the home a modern feel, while still retaining and lifting the older features of the home such as the ornate ceiling roses and stained glass windows.

Further key aesthetic features of the home include;

  • Double glazed timber windows and doors
  • Centor screens
  • Large bespoke joinery package
  • Pressed metal ceiling to client’s office (Installed meticulously by our own carpenters)
  • Imported slate placement to downstairs living areas
  • Meticulous wallpaper placement
  • Attention to detail with all trim carpentry (to new and old areas)
  • Landscaping package completed in house by Waratah

As it was an extensive build, joining 2 existing buildings with a new 2 storey link, we did have to overcome certain challenges, some of which included;

  • Suspended concrete balcony detailing for waterproofing and structural longevity and performance. We decided to introduce a hob detail to these balconies and use a pedestal system for the travertine pavers as opposed to a more traditional tile screed and bed system. Along with 2 layers of cementitious waterproofing, and correct falls to drainage outlets this allowed us to have a level finished surface that required no aesthetically unappealing cuts in tiles to create falls.
  • Major plumbing and drainage service upgrades and incorporation into existing and new structures (Remote septic system and transpiration beds, in ground 120KL concrete water tank placement, surface and subsurface drainage and reticulation, hot and cold water reticulation and major pump upgrades, addition of new 100m on-site bore)
  • Ensuring the roof levels of the new section between the 2 original dwellings were seamless
  • Major electrical upgrades including the addition of a new 250KVA transformer and main switchboard to service the property
  • Hydronic heating and heat pump placement and integration throughout the property including in slab hydronic heating and wall radiator placement
  • Addition of large amounts of double-glazed windows and doors throughout the property

The finished product of this beautiful home is a bespoke masterpiece, showcasing immaculate craftsmanship, intricate details and beautiful design.

We love the seamless transition of the old dwellings to the new addition, retaining the character and features of the home.
